Larry received his MD degree from UTMB Galveston. He also did a residency in pediatrics at UTMB Galveston. He did his fellowship in allergy/immunology and DLI at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center. He remained on the teaching staff and was elevated to Chief in 2002.
