THE THIRD TWENTY YEARS

July 2005: The staff of Hagan, Quinn, Dice, and Rathkopf is joined by Michael S. Tankersley.  Flanagan, Albright, Arora, and Meier are assigned to the field. Freiler, T. Johnson, L. Moore, and A. Parker enter the second year of fellowship. First year fellows include Chris Calabria, Chris Coop, Todd Hrabek, Steve Scranton, and Mark Tucker.

July 2006: Larry Hagan retires and Jim Quinn becomes Chief.  Rathkopf takes an assignment to Elmendorf, Alaska. Dice and Tankersley are joined on the staff by Ronald England. Freiler, Johnson, Moore, and Parker are assigned to the field. Calabria, Coop, Hrabek, and Scranton move into the second year of fellowship. First year fellows include Kevin White, Jeffrey Dietrich, Erika Gonzalez, and Tonya Rans-Nigro.

July 2007: Quinn, Dice, Tankersley, and England are joined on the staff by Chris Calabria. Coop, Hrabek, and Scranton are assigned to the field. White, Dietrich, Gonzalez, and Rans-Nigro become 2nd year fellows. First-year fellows include Mark Lashell, Adrian Letz, Meredith Moore, and Hans Otto.

July 2008: Quinn, Tankersley, England, and Calabria are joined on the staff by Erika Gonzalez-Reyes. John Dice separates and starts a practice in San Antonio. White, Dietrich, and Rans-Nigro take assignments.  Lashell, Letz, M. Moore, and Otto become second-year fellows. New fellows include Kimberly Johnson, Teresa Nesselroad, Chris Webber, and Joshua Sacha.

July 2009: Jim Quinn retires from the USAF but continues as a civilian staff.  Mike Tankersley becomes chief. England, Gonzalez-Reyes, and Calabria are joined on the staff by Tonya Rans-Nigro. Lashell, Letz, M. Moore, and Otto take field assignments. Sacha, Nesselroad, Webber, and K. Johnson move into the second year of fellowship.  Monica Johnson, Joseph Forester, Mark Stahl, and Troy Baker join as first-year fellows.

July 2010:  Michael S. Tankersley, James M. Quinn, Tonya Rans-Nigro, Erika Gonzalez-Reyes, are joined by Kimberly J. Johnson and David E. Hrncir. Kirk H. Waibel and Kimberley S. Salazar are staff at BAMC in the army that become involved in the WHMC program as a result of new command structure. Sacha, Nesselroad, and Webber take field assignments. Monica L. Johnson, Joseph P. Forester, Mark C. Stahl, and Troy W. Baker move into the second year of training. April M. Arseneau, Tyson C. Brown, Jeremy M. Sikora, and Shayne C. Stokes become 1st year trainees.

(Note: The Brooke Army and Wilford Hall Medical Center integration  was completed, and the move-in was begun into BAMC’s new 760,000-square-foot consolidated tower. This initiative was directed by the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure law and marked a new era in military medicine and history.)

 

July 2012: Michael S. Tankersley takes an assignment to Randolph AFB. Kimberly Johnson takes a field assignment. Tonya Rans-Nigro is promoted to Chief. James M. Quinn, Erika Gonzalez-Reyes, David E. Hrncir, and Kevin M. White are joined on staff by Charles N. Webb and Christopher C. Coop.  April M. Arseneau, Tyson C. Brown, Jeremy M. Sikora and Shayne C. Stokes are assigned to the field.  Brett D. Coons, Howard C. Crisp, Scott D. Dickson, David M. Rose, and Sandy K. Yip move to the second year. Karla E. Adams, Michelle E. Bandino, Tiffany J. Owens, and Daniel A. Steigelman become 1st year trainees.

Coons, Crisp, Dickson, Rose, and Yip are assigned to the field. Karla E. Adams, Michelle E. Bandino, Tiffany J. Owens, and Daniel A. Steigelman move into the 2nd year of fellowship. Karen E. Bruner, Thad F. L. Ocampo, and Pricilla H. Wong are 1st year trainees.

July 2014: Tonya Rans-Nigro, James M. Quinn, Kevin M. White, Charles E. Webb, Christopher C. Coop, David E. Hrncir, Erika Gonzalez-Reyes, and Michael S. Tankersley (Randolph) continue as staff and are joined by Dan Steigelman. Adams, Bandino, and Owens are assigned to the field. Karen E. Bruner, Thad F. L. Ocampo, and Pricilla H. Wong become 2nd year fellows. Derek M. Smith and Katherine S. Tilly begin the 1st year fellowship.

Mike Tankersley retires, Kevin White takes a field assignment, and Erika Gonzalez-Reyes separates and establishes a practice in San Antonio. Karen E. Bruner, Thad F. L. Ocampo, and Pricilla H. Wong take field assignments. Derek M. Smith and Katherine S. Tilly move to the 2nd year. Edward Champoux become the single 1st year fellow.

July 2016: Christopher C. Coop, James M. Quinn, David E. Hrncir, Daniel A. Steigelman, and John F. Freiler, are joined on the staff by Karla Adams.  Tonya Rans-Nigro takes an assignment and Charles Webb separates. Derek Smith and Katherine Tilly take field assignments. Champoux moves to the 2nd year. Rebecca S. Schapira is accepted as a 1st year fellow.

July 2017: Christopher C. Coop, James M. Quinn, David E. Hrncir, John F. Freiler, Daniel A. Steigleman, and  Karla E. Adams remain on the staff. Edward Champoux takes a field assignment. Rebecca Schapira moves to the 2nd year. Priya I. Nath and Sofia M. Szari are accepted as 1st year fellows.

(Note: Wilford Hall Medical Center was named for US Air Force Major General Wilford Hall in 1963. It began as a 100 bed station hospital in 1942 and by the end of World War II, the hospital had grown to 1,200 beds. In 1957, the hospital and tower was completed to care for soldiers, sailors and airmen returning from the Korean conflict. It remained in operation until 2011 when the Wilford Hall’s Trauma Center was transferred to Brooke Army Medical Center at Ft Sam Houston, and 2017 when clinics and services were transferred to the new Wilford Hall Ambulatory Surgical Center at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland. The 1.5 million square foot facility treated countless thousands of service men and women and their families throughout its 60+ year lifetime. The area will be restored to provide additional parking for the new facilities, over 25 acres of green space and over a mile of walking/jogging track.)

July 2018: Christopher C. Coop, James M. Quinn, David E. Hrncir, Daniel A. Steigelman, and Karla E. Adams are joined on the staff by Derek M. Smith. John Freiler retires and starts practice in San Antonio. Rebecca Schapira takes a field assignment. Priya I. Nath and Sofia M. Szari move to the 2nd year. First year fellows include Taylor J. Atchley, Geoffrey S. Carlson, Julie A. Davenport, and Brittanie I. Neaves.

(Note: Brittanie Neaves teams with a University of Tennessee fellow to win the 2018 FIT Bowl: 14th for the program. Mike Tankersley called us and said he had a single fellow from the program at Tennessee that wanted to participate and did we have an “extra” fellow who would join them.  Chris Coop offered Brittanie and the rest is history.)

 

July 2019: Christopher C. Coop, James M. Quinn, David E. Hrncir, Daniel A. Steigelman, Karla E. Adams, and Derek Smith are re-joined on the staff by Kevin M. White. Nath and Szari take field assignments. Taylor J. Atchley, Geoffrey S. Carlson, Julie A. Davenport, and Brittanie I. Neaves move to the second year fellowship. Jun Mendoza becomes the lone 1st year fellow.

Carlson, Julie A. Davenport, and Brittanie I. Neaves take field assignments. Jun Mendoza moves into the second year of training. Samuel Weiss become the first year lone fellow.

Sam Weiss moves to the 2nd year. First year trainees include Robert Brooks, Charles K. Miller, and Mededith Schuldt.

July 2022: Christopher Coop takes an assignment. Karla E. Adams is promoted to Chief.  James M. Quinn, David E. Hrncir, Daniel A. Steigelman, and Kevin M. White remain on the staff. Sam Weiss takes an assignment. Robert Brooks, Charles K. Miller, and Meredith Schuldt move to the 2nd year. First year fellows include Joseph A. Baxter, Tasha S. Hellu, and Lauren N. Gabreski.

Joseph A. Baxter, Tasha S. Hellu, and Lauren N. Gabreski move to the 2nd year. First year fellows are Veronica C. Alix, Vishaka R. Hatcher, and David C. Mari
