John E. Murnane III

Virginia Beach – Capt. John Eugene Murnane III, M.D. passed away in his home in Virginia Beach on March 1, 2018. John was born November 16, 1951, in New Jersey to Elizabeth Downs Murnane and the late John Murnane, Jr. He received his B.S. at Virginia Tech (’73), M.S. from Wake Forest (’75), and M.D. from MCV (’79). He was a Flight Surgeon in the U.S. Air Force, serving tours in Desert Storm and Haiti, and completed his 26 years of military service as a Naval Captain in the U.S. Navy Medical Corps. He is survived by his loving wife, Debra Murnane; 3 children, John (Holly) Murnane IV, Lauren (Greg) Castro, and Nathan Murnane; 3 grandchildren, Gregory and David Castro, and John “Jackie” Murnane V; his mother; his siblings, Tim (Susan), Mike (Jennifer), and Chris (Penny) Murnane, and Liz (Peter) Galantich. John was devoted to his family, dedicated to his profession, and a lover of animals.  John will be laid to rest and remembered at Arlington National Cemetery, with full military honors.
