Hans F. Otto, MD

Dr. Hans Otto joined Family Allergy & Asthma in 2011. He is a U.S. Air Force veteran with over 10-years of active duty service and continues his service in the USAF Reserves. Dr. Otto joined us after serving as Chief of Allergy/Immunology and Immunizations at Wright-Patterson AFB Medical Center, Assistant Professor of Medicine Wright State University School of Medicine, Dayton, OH and Assistant Professor of Medicine U.S. University of the Health Sciences (USUHS), Bethesda, MD. He continues to serve as volunteer faculty at numerous graduate medical education programs in northern Kentucky and southern Ohio. He is the only National Allergy Bureau certified pollen counter in the Cincinnati metro area. He has served as the President of the Cincinnati Allergy & Asthma Society (2016-2018).

Dr. Otto is a southern Ohio native and earned his B.S. from Wright State University, his Medical Degree from Ohio State College of Medicine, and his MBA with a focus on Medical Management from the University of Massachusetts. He completed his Residency in Internal Medicine at Wright-Patterson AFB/Wright State University School of Medicine, and his Fellowship in Adult and Pediatric Allergy, Asthma and Immunology at Wilford Hall Medical Center, San Antonio, TX. He served two overseas tours as Chief of Internal Medicine at Osan Air Base, South Korea and Bitburg-Spangdahlem Air

Tiffany J. Owens, MD

As a former pediatrician at Wright-Patterson Medical Center, I had the opportunity to receive training in the diagnoses and treatment of allergic disorders. It was my experience with allergists at the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine and the U.S. Air Force allergy training program that made me feel passionate about this subspecialty.

I give the same care and attention to my patients as I did with children and their families when I was a pediatrician. I enjoy helping patients understand what we know (and don’t know) about their condition, the limitations of testing, and the use of medications and non-medication treatments. I listen to their concerns, gather relevant history, order any necessary tests and partner with the patient to determine a personalized treatment plan.

The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center stands out because of the institution’s long-standing history of education, research and patient care as well as its community involvement and way of practically applying translational research to patient care. While working here, I would love to get involved in research relating to allergic rhinitis, venom allergy and/or allergy education. I’m also fascinated by immunomodulation, the possibility to change the immune system to be less reactive to allergens such as environmental (dog, cat, dust mite), pollens and venom.

From 2015 to 2020, I was the only allergist working for Licking Memorial Health Systems, a community hospital in Newark, Ohio, with a primary role as a hospitalist pediatrician. I supported the idea of creating an allergy clinic there, training allergy nurses and treating a variety of allergic and immunologic conditions.

Outside of the workplace, I’m also involved on a national level with Christian Medical and Dental Associations (CMDA), primarily with Women Physicians in Christ (WPC), as well as with several national medical associations. In my free time, I enjoy reading, traveling on medical missions, camping, being a 4-H advisor, and getting involved with my children’s extracurricular activities.

Amy L. Parker, MD

Dr. Amy Parker, MD, CPE is board-certified in allergy, asthma, and immunology for both pediatrics and adults. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia, and medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland.

Dr. Parker went on to complete her pediatrics residency and serve as Chief of Pediatric residents at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, TX. She remained at Wilford Hall to complete her fellowship in allergy, asthma, and immunology. This training was followed by 16 years of clinical practice in several U.S. locations and Germany while serving in the United States Air Force.

Enjoying a broad practice of allergy and immunology, she has special interests in insect hypersensitivity, food allergies, eosinophilic esophagitis, and asthma.

Dr. Parker grew up moving around as part of an Air Force family before eventually joining herself, where she would go on to meet her husband. Now with a family of her own, she enjoys watching her kids play on their sports teams and also enjoys running, doing yoga, reading, cooking, and is learning to play tennis.

William A. Parker, MD

William A. Parker, Jr., MD, joined Family Allergy & Asthma in 2021 and has been treating patients with allergies and asthma in the Miami Valley area since 1988. He is an Honor Graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy and received his medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine.

He completed his residency in Pediatrics and Fellowship in Allergy/Immunology at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center, San Antonio, TX. He received board certification through the American Board of Pediatrics and the American Board of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, and is a Fellow of the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology. Dr. Parker was Head, Division of Allergy and Immunology, at Dayton Children’s for over 20 years.

Melinda M. Rathkopf, MD

Dr. Rathkopf is the Director of the Allergy, Asthma and Immunology Center of Alaska. She earned her medical degree at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, GA. She then entered the U.S. Air Force, completing her pediatric residency training at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, MS. She practiced general pediatrics for two years prior to her Allergy and Immunology fellowship training at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, TX. She served nine years as an Air Force physician prior to joining the Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology Center of Alaska. She has been practicing in Anchorage since July of 2006. Additionally, Dr. Rathkopf currently serves as the chair of the Department of Pediatrics at Providence AK Medical Center and is the past president of the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, AK chapter.

Michael J. Reid, MD

Michael J. Reid was born in Brooklyn and raised in Westchester, New York, then moved west and studied medicine at University of Oregon Medical School. He initially did a residency in General Practice and then completed a residency in Pediatrics at Stanford. With an interest in the intricacies of the immune system, he went back to Stanford for a prestigious Fellowship in Allergies and Immunology. Dr. Reid has spent many years teaching Internal Medicine residents, Pediatric residents, and Medical students. Dr. Reid is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and the American Board of Allergy and Clinical Immunology. In addition to his private practice in San Francisco, he is also affiliated with California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco.

Dr. Reid is the current Vice President and Committee Chair of the Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology Foundation of Northern California, leading the organization of the group’s annual symposium. He keeps up on the latest research in the field, offering a combination of time-tested and cutting edge approaches to supporting the immune system. Dr. Reid is Assistant Clinical Professor at UCSF and is the author of many scientific articles on allergies, asthma and immunology.

Michael E. Ruff, MD

Dr. Ruff is our pediatric allergist, and is a native of Dallas. He obtained his undergraduate degree at Texas A&M University, and his medical degree at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. He subsequently completed his residency and fellowship training at Duke University in North Carolina. Afterwards, he served four years in the military where he was on the teaching staff at the Air Force’s primary teaching hospital at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio. He then returned home to Dallas in 1987, and has been practicing at Dallas Allergy & Asthma Center since. In addition to direct patient care, Dr. Ruff is an active clinical researcher and professional educator.

He is certified by both the American Board of Pediatrics and the American Board of Allergy & Immunology. He is a member and past chairman of the Public Education Committee of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology. He is a Clinical Associate Professor in Allergy at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, and has been a past recipient of the Outstanding Teacher Award in the allergy-immunology fellowship training program there. He has been recognized on a yearly basis as one of D Magazine’s Best Doctors, as well as one of Texas’ Super Doctors and Castle Connolly’s Top Doctors since the inception of these annual surveys.
