Cleve received his  medical degree from the Medical College of Alabama in 1967. He did his fellowship at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center. He joined the staff of Wilford Hall in 1976 and served for 2 years. Upon Separation, he started a practice in Mobile, Alabama until his death.
